The First Letter of Peter Chapter 1

The First Letter of Peter

Chapter 1

 1. Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2. who have been chosen and destined by God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit to be obedient to Jesus Christ and to be sprinkled with his blood: May grace and peace be yours in abundance.

(The First letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 1 to 2)

Oh God, my Father how nice it is to feel part of one big family. When tribulations start attacking us, it is nice to know that there are people who love you and are ready to give their support in any possible way Amen.

3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the death, 4. and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5. who are being protected by the power of God and through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

(The First letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 3 to 5)

As sons and daughters of God, we have been born again like a mobile phone that had its battery drained and is now connected to a strong charger. By means of the resurrection of Jesus, this reboot actually took place and You gave us a second chance to become your sons and daughters again. You signed the adoption papers by means of Your holy blood during the harshest of passions ever and now that we are related we share in both consolations and in the desolations of Your passion. However according to this contact we are also receiving Your protection which is greater than any other protective shield.

Oh God,  I thank You for being so merciful and kind, and also for Your constant protection. It, therefore, follows that if we agree to sin it is by our own consent because when doing so we are willfully disabling our firewall so that the forces of evil can easily penetrate our means of protection. Amen. I thank Your for Your Holy Spirit in which we were born again, and by whom You protect us. Thank You, Jesus Son of God my Father.

6. In this you rejoice, even, if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, 7. so that the genuineness of your faith being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire and may be found to result in praise and glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.

(The First letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 6 to 7)

Oh God, my Father I praise and thank You for the trials that I have had to face and more that are still in the pending tray, for it is by means of such events that I can grow in spirit. As You said tribulations have the purpose of testing us, so when the precious day to meet You arrives we will be found ready and worthy Amen.

8. Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though yo do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, 9. for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

(The First  letter of St. Peter Chapter 1 verses 8 to 9)

Oh God my Father if I could engrave this verse in my heart and mind I would surely do so, for You are my one and only true love. Your love is genuine and true, and there is no hidden agenda in it. You love me even though I am a sinner, so much that You accept me as I am and not as You expect me to be. Oh God my Father if I were to compile a long list of events and things for which to thank You it would be never ending but the greatest thing would be for giving me faith in You and for this blog among others Amen.

10. Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours made careful search and  inquiry, 11. inquiring about the person or time that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ and the subsequent glory. 12. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things that have now been  announced to you through those who brought you good news by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven-things into which angels long to look!

(The First Letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 10 to 12)

Oh God, my Father I greatly thank You for the Holy Spirit and prophecy, now I realise that even prophecy needs to be confirmed and analysed, for there is always the risk that the message may be coming from the prophet but not from You. Amen.

13. Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.

(The First Letter of Peter Chapter 1 verse 13)

Oh God, I thank You for giving me the same message in two different chapters. Thank You for insisting that become master of my physical urges by disciplining myself. I pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit and for the gift of 'self-control and discipline Amen.

14. Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. 15. Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; 16. for it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."

(The First Letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 14  to 16)

Oh God my Father, although I am an adult I am still a child, in fact, a child who although wishes to obey You ends up being disobedient. With all my heart I wish to obey and be Holy as You strongly commanded us to be like You but my physical and psychological self still need to develop. My emotions are still sensitive and hurt, and I have become very tense and nervous. I need Your help, my God. Your child needs You badly Amen.

17.  If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile. 18. You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, 19. but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.

(The First Letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 17  to 19)

Amen, You are indeed my God and Father, You are always active in my life and have never abandoned me even though there are moments when I lose contact with You due to my sinful actions but You are always present and faithful like a father to his son Amen. I thank You for paying the price of my redemption Amen.

20. He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake. 21. Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are set on God.

(The First Letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 20  to 21)

Ever since the creation of the earth and even before oh God my Father You already existed, however, according to Your perfect timing You decided to become human and unfold the plan for our salvation so that we could now have a relationship together and that our faith hope and trust may be placed in You Amen.

22. Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart. 23. You have been born anew, not of perishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. 24. For "All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25. but the word of the Lord endures forever." That word is the good news that was announced to you.

(The First Letter of Peter Chapter 1 verses 22  to 25)

Oh God, my Father when we are in a relationship with You, we, are transformed by the same relationship. We become born again not from the flesh which is conditioned and subject to sin, but from the Holy Spirit who day by day transforms our broken spirit conditioned by sin and the ways of the world, to one that has no conditions or limitations based on Your will Amen.

Oh God my Father, I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer:-

Oh God, my Father I pray that You transform me into Your image. May I be born again not from the flesh but from the Spirit. May I be more aware of what I say and what I do and stop to reflect if what I am saying or doing are according to the flesh or according to the Spirit. I pray that in time a transformation will take place from flesh to Spirit Amen.

                                                                  Thank You, Jesus
